Not Your Grandma’s Entry Table: A Colorful Folk-Art Glow-Up

Sometimes, a piece of furniture just needs a little love (and a lot of paint stripping) to reveal its true beauty. This entry table had layers upon layers of old paint, but I knew that underneath it all was stunning wood legs and a solid wood top just waiting to shine. Using BB Frösch Paint Transformer and a bold color palette from Valspar, I gave this table a transformation that blends natural wood with vibrant folk-art charm.

The Plan

The goal was to expose the beautiful wood on the legs and top while keeping the back legs and body painted for contrast. I wanted to create a statement piece—something functional, but with plenty of personality.

The 'before' shot – layered in old paint and full of potential

The Process

1. Stripping the Wood

First things first, I had to strip off decades of old paint to get down to the raw wood. Easy, right? Ha. No.

We started with Klean Strip Premium Paint Stripper, but apparently, 99-degree Las Vegas heat turns that stuff into useless goop faster than I can say "bad life choices." So, we switched to Citristrip, covered it in plastic like it was a crime scene, and hoped for the best. It sort of worked… if "worked" means "did slightly more than nothing."

In the end, we admitted defeat and let the sander do what no chemical could. It took patience (and maybe some choice words), but finally, the wood was smooth, beautiful, and ready for the next step.

2. Mixing and Painting with BB Frösch

Because a sad, lifeless table just wouldn’t do, I went full-on makeover mode. I mixed BB Frösch Paint Transformer with Valspar’s Jazzy Red. If this table was getting a new look, it was going to own the room.

The process was basically kitchen science: I started with two heaping tablespoons of BB Frösch Paint Transformer and mixed it with 1 to 1½ tablespoons of water until it reached the consistency of donut glaze (which, disappointingly, was not edible). Once it was perfectly smooth, I stirred it into my paint, creating a rich, velvety mixture that was almost too good to be true.

BB Frösch worked its magic, making the paint easy to work with and giving it a gorgeous, matte finish. The coverage was so good, I started thinking, “Wow, I might actually be good at this.” (Let’s be real, it was probably just the paint.)

Paint mixing magic – donut glaze consistency is the goal!

3. Hand-Painted Folk Art Details

Since I always embrace chaos (and who needs just a painted table when you can have a masterpiece?), I decided to add some hand-painted folk art-inspired flair. I painted a whimsical bird and vine design across the front and sides—why settle for a plain table when you can turn it into a wild expression of creativity?

For this, I used:

  • Nana’s Rose Pink – because Nana has no time for basic colors, and neither do I.

  • Oh So Pink – for when Nana’s Rose was feeling too mellow and needed a little extra chaos.

  • Laurel Wreath Green – because what’s art without a little greenery to make it pop?

These soft yet vibrant tones pop beautifully against the deep red base, giving the table a “I found this in a quirky antique shop in a tiny European village” vibe... when really, it’s just me, embracing the chaos, and accidentally creating something amazing.

4. Finishing Touches: Waxing for Depth and Protection

No great makeover is complete without a little glow-up magic, so it was time to bring out the wax. For the top and legs, I used BB Frösch Premium Dark Wax, which instantly deepened the tones and made the wood grain pop like it just got back from a luxury spa treatment. Suddenly, this table had character—like an antique shop treasure instead of a Craigslist rescue.

For the painted areas, I sealed everything with BB Frösch Clear Premium Wax, locking in all that glorious color while giving it a smooth, buttery finish. Now it’s protected from life’s inevitable chaos—rogue coffee cups, dramatic table slams, and the occasional “oops, I forgot coasters exist.”

The Final Look

This entry table is now serving main character energy, blending raw wood warmth with bold, hand-painted artistry. The contrast between the exposed legs and the richly painted body? Chef’s kiss. And those folk art details? They’re basically winking at you.

"Final glam shot – from forgotten to fabulous!"

Why BB Frösch?

Because struggling through a paint project is so last season. BB Frösch Paint Transformer made the whole process smoother than my best excuse for skipping laundry day. Being able to mix it with any paint color meant I had full creative control, and the waxes gave this piece a flawless, long-lasting finish—like a furniture-level glow-up.
