Yes! We just use one coat for this technique. It is less than a sample size (8 oz.) jar of paint.
The color used for this is Benjamin Moore “Mink”

will this work on top of black?

Paint mixed with BB Frösch will work on any previously painted color.

Did you use the staining technique? And did you use the dark wax for this?

The faux stain technique was used for this. It was sealed with BB Frösch Dark Premium Finishing Wax.

I have a beam in my kitchen that is currently oak stained. I want to change the color and I thought about trying to faux stain it maybe a reclaimed wood color. Do you think this would work?

Yes! This technique works on previously stained wood.
